Dr. M. Shane Thompson Joins Hydrosize
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA -- July 1, 2007, Hydrosize Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Shane Thompson to our team. Dr. Thompson earned his doctoral degree in polymer chemistry from Virginia Tech with Dr. Judy Riffle as his research advisor. His graduate research focused on the synthesis of biocompatible block copolymers and magnetite nanoparticles. He studied the formation of magnetite complexes with the copolymers, the ability of the block copolymers to stabilize the magnetite particles in suspensions, and the interfacial and surface properties of the particles.

Dr. Thompson participated in the East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes Program sponsored by the NSF and the Australian Academy of Science to characterize the magnetic microspheres using SEM and TEM and investigated magnetophoretic mobility of the microspheres. These biocompatible nanoparticles are being developed for ‘magnetic separation’ particularly the removal of toxins from blood similar in concept to dialysis.

Dr. Thompson received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a minor in physics from North Carolina State University and was the Valedictorian of his graduating class. Shane is a native of North Carolina and enjoys billiards.

Dr. Thompson will focus on the development of new polymeric materials. He is a very talented scientist and is a valuable asset to Hydrosize. Dr. Thompson will play a major role in helping to meet our customers’ technical needs.
