Corporate ProfileHydrosize® Technologies, Inc. is a privately owned and operated chemical company dedicated to the development and manufacture of state of the art polymeric materials. The research and development division is organized into two major departments, Specialty Coatings and Innovative Materials. The Specialty Coatings Department includes Sizings, Binders, and Coatings and Adhesives with a focus on specialty coatings such as binders and waterborne sizings (film formers/finishes) utilized in the composite industry and coatings for a variety of applications. New polymeric materials research, process development, and custom manufacturing comprise the Innovative Materials Department. At the Corporate Research Center, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, a variety of products have been developed based on our own proprietary technology. If one of our commercial products does not meet your needs, we will interact closely with you to tailor design a product for your individual requirements. Our goal is to provide you with a competitive advantage to improve your products, create new products, and expand in the marketplace. The researchers at Hydrosize® have doctoral degrees in polymer chemistry and engineering and over 26 years of combined industrial experience. Our research team is highly skilled in the science of structure-to-property relationships and is adept at translating your needs to the appropriate polymeric structure that will demonstrate the targeted characteristics. Hydrosize has experience in the synthesis of thermoset and thermoplastic matrix resins and has the capabilities to manufacture almost any step growth polymeric resin such as polyesters (unsaturated and thermoplastic), polyamides, polyamic acids, polyimides, imide oligomers, bismaleimides, polyarylene ethers (including polyetherketones and polysulfones), polyurethanes, vinyl esters, epoxies, acrylics, polysiloxanes, and biocompatible block copolymers. We also synthesize new monomers to be used in the preparation of polymers. We evaluate the mechanical and physical properties of polymers and fiber reinforced polymeric resins to fully characterize their behavior and potential. We have academic and industrial experience in many polymer processing techniques such as compounding, many forms of molding (injection, open, closed, RTM, VARTM), extrusion, thermoforming, and compression molding. Hydrosize scientists are highly skilled in the formulation of polymers to optimize their performance such as the thermal and thermo-oxidative stabilization, flame retardancy, nucleation, plasticization, and the addition of low profile additives to control the thermal coefficient of expansion. Hydrosize® Technologies provides high quality, custom designed, specifically formulated products for improved fiber processing and the optimization of the fiber-matrix interface. The Hydrosize Portfolio boasts 15 commercial sizings and binders with 6 different chemistries including poly(hydroxy ethers), polyamic acids, polyurethanes, polyolefins, toughened epoxy resins, and poly(styrene acrylates). These products were designed for glass, carbon, steel, basalt, Kevlar, and other synthetic and natural fibers to be used in conjunction with numerous matrix resins. With the utilization of Hydrosize® products specifically designed for your manufacturing processes, you may expect numerous improvements including ease of processing and handling fibers, accelerated processing rates, reduced amount of off-spec material, and optimized composite performance. Hydrosize® products may be utilized in the fabrication of woven, nonwoven, chopped, and continuous strand mats to improve mat strength and solvent resistance. Our aqueous coatings are organic solvent free, contain no hazard air pollutants, have low odor, and may be used in various applications including leather, textile, and paper coatings and as adhesives. The coatings have good chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and strong adhesive properties. Our unique organic solvent free, waterborne polyimide chemistry is excellent for applications requiring high temperature stability. The soft, breathable, durable aqueous polyurethane coatings are ideal for textile coatings. Hydrosize® is in the initial stages of developing coatings and binders for antimicrobial, antifungal, and antimold applications. Hydrosize® is a global company directly supplying product to customers regardless of volume. We are able to produce 1 drum to truckload quantities daily via batch manufacturing processes. Monomers and polymeric materials may be manufactured in solution, emulsion, suspension, or neat. We have conducted research to develop new techniques or use unconventional methods to produce materials that are difficult or cannot be made with traditional equipment. With our knowledge and experience in converting lab scale syntheses to commercial production, we welcome projects to develop commercial manufacturing processes. We offer ISO 9000 and cGMP certification. You can count on us to provide the highest level of quality, outstanding technical service, reliability, confidentiality, on-time delivery, and competitive prices. With a highly successful, thoroughly innovative approach to problem solving, Hydrosize® Technologies, Inc. makes major contributions to polymer science. We welcome new challenges and offer an objective, fresh perspective. Combining the expertise and resources of our companies, we will forge a synergistic, mutually successful partnership.
