Hydrosize HP-1621: For Applications Requiring High Temperature Stability

Hydrosize HP-1621 is an aqueous poly(amic acid) solution that is readily converted to a polyimide upon drying at high temperatures providing a thermally stable film/coating. Hydrosize HP-1621 is a unique poly(amic acid) waterborne solution in that is does NOT contain NMP, DMAC, DMSO, DMF.  In fact, Hydrosize HP-1621 is free of any Hazard Air Pollutants. HP-1621 has excellent thermal and thermo-oxidative stability with an onset of degradation approaching 500°C and a glass transition temperature (Tg) greater than 245°C. This coating has excellent adhesion properties and is abrasion resistant.

Hydrosize HP-1621 was originally designed as a sizing for glass and carbon fiber, to withstand high temperature compounding and composite fabrication conditions, and form strong interfacial bonding with PEEK, polyimides, high temperature polyamides, and other high performance resins. The sizing and the interface will remain stable during extended high temperature continuous use conditions. However, this product is also ideal for applications requiring high temperatures to manufacture a part or for when the part will be exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. Since it is a water solution and nonhazardous, it is easy to handle and may used in a variety of manufacturing processes. Hydrosize® U10-01: A Replacement for Epoxy Sizings

Hydrosize® U10-01 is an aqueous polyurethane sizing that is soluble in water and styrene. The dissolution in styrene is very effective in promoting fiber wet-out in vinyl ester and unsaturated polyester composites. Hydrosize® U10-01 has amine functionality making it reactive with epoxy resins and can be utilized as a replacement for epoxy sizings. Since Hydrosize® U10-01 is a high molecular weight thermoplastic polyurethane, it does not “self-crosslink” on the fiber during storage providing a longer shelf life than traditional epoxy sizings. It is not a known skin sensitizer like epoxies. This polyurethane solution provides excellent lubricity to facilitate weaving, reduce fuzz, and allows for effective fiber spreading.  These attributes make it ideal for continuous strand and long fiber reinforced composites. The solution may be formulated to low pH showing stability for two weeks at a pH of 2. Hydrosize U10-01 contains no organic solvents or Hazardous Air Pollutants.
